The unveiling ceremony for the bust of Sergio Vieira de Mello, United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (from September 2002 to August 2003) who lost his life in the bombing of UN headquarters in Iraq on August 19, 2003, was attended by the United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon. The monument has been designed by the President of the Russian Academy of Arts Zurab Tsereteli and presented as a gift to the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights in Geneva, Switzerland.

On September 3, 2007 the Bank of Russia will put in circulation four memorable silver coins. One of them is dedicated to the jubilee of the Russian Academy of Arts. Its face-value is three roubles. The coin is made of 925 silver alloy, the circulation – 10000 coins.

The bronze bust of the ballet dancer Natalia Dudinskaya (1912-2003) by People’s Artist of Russia and Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Arts Grigori Yastrebenetski will be dedicated on the campus of the St. Petersburg Humanitarian University of Trade Unions (15 Fuchika street) on September 1, 2007. Since 1995 Natalia Dudinskaya has been an Honorary Doctor of the above University.

By the Day of Moscow will be launched the “Trubnaya” Moscow subway station. The finishing work is being completed. The station décor is dedicated to the city of Moscow and towns of the Golden Ring around Moscow that are well-known Russian tourists attractions – Rostov the Great, Pereslavl- Zalesski, Sergiev Posad and others.

Today, a lot of unloading work has been in full swing at the building of the Sochi Art Museum. It is a solo exhibition of Zurab Tsereteli to be displayed in the city. The big sculptures of cinema characters, and not only them, will find their temporary home on the Museum’s stairs.

In the Art Gallery (19 Prechistenka street) there was a presentation of a new sculpture by the President of the Russian Academy of Arts Zurab Tsereteli. The bronze multi-figure composition “Night at the Ipatiev House” is dedicated to the tragic death of the Russian Emperor Nicholas II and his family.

The President of the Russian Academy of Arts Zurab Tsereteli has been awarded a medal of St. Cyril and St. Mephodi for his big contribution to the development of culture. The President of the Slavic Foundation of Russia Galina Bogolyubova presented the medal to Zurab Tsereteli at the meeting of the Presidium of the Russian Academy of Arts in Moscow on June 26, 2007.

June 20, 2007 – On the territory of the Moscow University of the Ministry of Internal Affairs was unveiled a monument to the Soldier of Law and Order designed by People’s Artist of the Russian Federation, Vice-President of the Russian Academy of Arts Anatoli Bichukov. The world renowned Japanese architect Kisho Kurokawa has come to Moscow to participate in events in honor of the 250th Anniversary of the Russian Academy of Arts. On June 15, 2007 at the General Meeting in the Oecumenical Councils of the Cathedral of Christ the Saviour Kisho Kurokawa was officially awarded the title of an Honorary Member of the Russian Academy of Arts.
