Tsereteli Art Gallery and Elena Dolenko Publishing House present the first concert of the Golden Voices of the World project to be held in Tsereteli Art Gallery on October 25, 2009 at 4pm. The tenor from Venezuela Hidver Alvares dedicates his program in Moscow to Mario Lanza, whose 50th death anniversary was marked on October 7, 2009.

In Tula there was a meeting of representatives of public organizations for the election of delegates to the conference of the Central Federal District where candidates for the Public Chamber of the Russian Federation would be nominated. The celebrated Russian sculptor Zurab Tsereteli was approved as a delegate to the conference by the majority of votes at the meeting.

The monument to the founder of Askania-Nova, the natural reserve established in 1874 by landowner Friedrich Falz-Fein around a German settlement in Kherson Region, Ukraine was unveiled in Askania-Nova on October 16, 2009. The sculptural composition has been designed by Dmitry Tugarinov, Honored Artist of the Russian Federation, Full Member of the Russian Academy of Arts.

On October 6, 2009 in the Russian Academy of Arts there was a friendly meeting of the President of the Russian Academy of Arts Zurab Tsereteli, members of the Presidium with a delegation of notable Chinese artists timed to the 60th anniversary of the People’s Republic of China and the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries. It has been held within the framework of the project “Peace Tour” uniting Chinese artists who live in various countries.

A memorial plaque commemorating Mikhail Ulyanov, People’s Artist of the USSR, Artistic Director of E. Vahtangov Theatre in 1987-2007 was unveiled on the house where he lived from 1972 until 2007, 29 Bolshaya Bronnaya street, Moscow. The plaque of bronze and granite has been designed by Andrei Balashov, Honored Artist of Russia, Full Member of the Russian Academy of Arts.

A memorial plaque commemorating the winner of the Nobel Prize in Literature Michael Sholokhov was unveiled in the lobby of the editorial office of “MK” newspaper on September 23, 2009. It has been designed by the President of the Russian Academy of Arts Zurab Tsereteli and Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Arts Alexander Mirianashvili.

On June 25, 2009 at the Moscow Museum of Modern Art President of the Russian Academy of Arts Zurab Tsereteli presented regalia of the Honorary Member of the Russian Academy of Arts to the Italian artist Francesca Leone. The ceremony was also attended by the world renowned composer Ennio Morricone, a friend of the artist’s family and author of scores for Sergio Leone’s films.

The first volume of the two-volume dictionary compiled by the Academy’s Research Institute of Theory and History of Fine Arts was presented at the session of the Presidium of the Russian Academy of Arts on June 9, 2009. It covers the history of fine arts until 1917, the second volume deals with the period from 1917 till these days.

At the session of the Presidium of the Russian Academy of Arts, Prof. Anatoly Bichukov, Vice-President of the Russian Academy of Arts, Rector of V. Surikov Moscow State Academy Art Institute, who has recently marked his jubilee, was presented with a Medal for Services to the Academy. The greetings telegram of the Russian President Dmitry Medvedev runs: “You have created a lot of remarkable monuments that are a part of the architectural image of Moscow and many other Russian cities, and today as a rector of the noted V. Surikov Art Institute you keep the best traditions of the national school of sculpture sharing the secrets of the professional skills with gifted young artists”.

The Russian pavilion at the 53rd Venice Biennale opened to the public on 4th June 2009 in the Giardini. The opening ceremony was attended by the Russian Minister of Culture Alexander Avdeev, President of the Russian Academy of Arts Zurab Tsereteli, Vice-President of the Russian Academy of Arts Tair Salakhov. The curator of the contemporary Russian art display titled Victory Over the Future is Olga Sviblova, the commissioner – Vasily Tsereteli.
