On June 1, 2010 the Chairman of the Council of Federation Sergei Mironov visited V. Surikov Moscow State Academy Art Institute at the invitation of the President of the Russian Academy of Arts Zurab Tsereteli, where he was shown works by its senior students and graduates. Sergei Mironov also got acquainted with the work of the painting and sculpture workshops and had a meeting with teachers and students of the Institute.

On June 1, in Moscow was unveiled a memorial to victims of the school hostage siege in the North Ossetian-Alanian town of Beslan on September 1-3, 2004. The monument designed by the People’s Artist of Russia, President of the Russian Academy of Arts Zurab Tsereteli stands in the downtown of Moscow in front of the Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin at Kulishki – Alanian town church of the Moscow Ossetian community, 5/2 Solyanka street.

The President of the Russian Academy of Arts Zurab Tsereteli has more than once told us about the influence of France on his creative work. It is quite natural, that he is an active participant in the events in honor of the Year of France in Russia and the Year of Russia in France. Before his leaving for Paris, where there will be held several exhibitions of the Russian Academy of Arts, Zurab Tsereteli has told the INTERFAX about the expositions to be presented to the French public.

On May 11, 2010 in Tsereteli Art Gallery, 19 Prechistenka street, the Ambassador of the French Republic to the Russian Federation Jean de Gliniasty presented the President of the Russian Academy of Arts Zurab Tsereteli with the National Order of the Legion of Honor. The award ceremony was attended by representatives of the French Embassy in Moscow, scientific and creative elite of Russia, members of the Presidium of the Russian Academy of Arts and admirers of Zurab Tsereteli’s talent.

The Order of Glory and Honor 3rd Rank was awarded to the Vice-President of the Russian Academy of Arts, People’s Artist of the USSR, Winner of the State Prizes of Russia and Azerbaijan Tair Salakhov for his contribution to the strengthening of inter-religious peace and on the occasion of his 80th anniversary.

The monument to the founder of the Ossetic literature, poet, sculptor and artist Kosta Hetagurov (1859-1906) was unveiled at the entrance to the Central Park in Vladikavkaz, capital of the Republic of North Ossetia-Alania on April 23, 2010. It has been designed by the noted Russian sculptor, Full Member of the Russian Academy of Arts Vladimir Soskiev.

In honor of the 1000th anniversary of Yaroslavl the President of the Russian Academy of Arts Zurab Tsereteli will present as a gift to the city a bronze bear that is a symbol of Yaroslavl. It will be a centerpiece of the city park in honor of its 1000th anniversary on the embankment of the Kotorosl River. Zurab Tsereteli has proposed his own artistic design – the bear standing on two legs is holding a big fish. The three-meter tall sculpture has already been completed and appreciated by the city authorities.

Devoted to the Year of France in Russia the concert in Tsereteli Art Gallery (19 Prechistenka street, Moscow) includes the French and Russian music to be performed by the Choir of Azure Hills. The Choir was established by the Professor of the Nice Conservatoire Fabien Verge in 1989 and unites fifty persons of diverse age and professions from the city of Gattiers and neighboring communes of Azure Hills.
