Moscow, January 13. /ITAR-TASS Correspondent Olga Svistunova/. The Russian Academy of Arts (RAA) will open a large-scale exhibition in Palermo. The vernisage in Sicily is scheduled for January 28. The President of the Russian Academy of Arts Zurab Tsereteli said about it today to the ITAR-TASS correspondent. “We have decided to start with the Sicilian project”, noted the President of the RAA. “It will be followed by three more big shows in Rome, Milan and Ancona. All of them are to be organized as part of the Year of Russian Culture and Language in Italy – 2011”.

According to the Protocol signed on 3 December 2009 during the Russian-Italian intergovernmental summit, the year of 2011 is a Year of Russian Culture and Language in Italy and the Year of Italian Culture and Language in Russia.

The prize was initiated by the Honorary Citizen of Tver Region, People’s Artist of the USSR, Vice-President of the Russian Academy of Arts Efrem Zverkov in 2007. This year the prize was awarded to winners of the painting competition organized by the Committee for Culture of Tver Region and A.G. Venetsianov Tver Regional Art College.

<P>On December 20, 2010 a memorial plaque commemorating the first Director-General of AvtoVAZ Company, Minister of Automobile Industry of the USSR (1975-1986), Hero of Socialist Labor Victor Polyakov was unveiled on the house where he had lived in Moscow, 6 Kholzunov Lane. The memorial plaque has been designed by the Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Arts, sculptor Philip Rukavishnikov in partnership with the architect Michael Korsy.

The memorial plaque commemorating the eminent architect Michael Posokhin was unveiled on December 13, 2010 on the façade of a high-rise designed by Michael Posokhin. Built in Kudrinskaya Square it has become one of the landmarks of Moscow. The memorial plaque created by the sculptor Ivan Kazansky features the architect’s high relief portrait and fragments of his most distinguished buildings.

On December 11, 2010 in the White Hall of the Russian Academy of Arts, 21 Prechistenka street, Moscow there was an award ceremony for the Central Federal District Prize in Literature and Arts. The annual Prize for the most distinguished works in literature and arts was initiated seven years ago by the Russian President’s Plenipotentiary in the Central Federal District Georgi Poltavchenko.

The President of the Russian Academy of Arts Zurab Tsereteli has donated his four graphic works to the Tomsk Regional Art Museum. These are the artist’s drawings depicting Charlie Chaplin that were exhibited at the 4-th Russian Drawing – 2010 Triennale in Tomsk.

On December 3, 2010 in the Sergievsky Hall of the Cathedral of Christ the Savior there was the first session of the Patriarch’s Council for Culture chaired by His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia. On October 29, 2010 in Tobolsk was unveiled a bronze sculpture of the Russian writer Fyodor Dostoevsky sitting on a bench at the open Gospel book. The monument designed by the Academician of the Russian Academy of Arts Mikhail Pereyaslavets stands not far from the building of a transit prison in Oktyabrskaya street near the public garden named after Fyodor Dostoevsky. He spent there ten days on his way to the exile in Omsk, Siberia.

In 1992 the Moscow Secondary Art School was renamed into the Moscow Academy Art Lyceum. It became a good tradition to celebrate every year on October 19 the Lyceum’s Day when the fifth-year pupils officially become the Lyceum’s students. This year the ceremony will be held at the Russian Academy of Arts in the “Apple” hall, 19 Prechistenka street, at 11 am.

Zurab Tsereteli Museum-Studio in Moscow is involved in the annual project “Family Journey. Family’s Visit to a Museum” to be held in Moscow for the third time on Saturdays and Sundays from September 25 till November 14, 2010.
