Presentation of “Anatoly Karpov – the Great Russian Chess Player” Cup in Tsereteli Art Gallery

On November 24, 2011 in Tsereteli Art Gallery there was a presentation of an International Program - “Anatoly Karpov – the Great Russian Chess Player” Cup. The ceremony was attended by the Co-Chairman of the Program Organizing Committee Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences E.M. Primakov, Senior Secretary Professor A.G. Laskovenko, repeated World Chess Champion A.E. Karpov, President of the Russian Academy of Arts Zurab Tsereteli.

E.M. Primakov told the attendees about the creation and goal of this challenge Cup designed by Zurab Tsereteli. The organization of chess tournaments under the motto “Anatoly Karpov – the Great Russian Chess Player” is aimed at promoting the art of chess playing among children and teenagers. The Program is based on the personal experience of Anatoly Karpov who has established over 150 children’s chess schools in 30 counties and makes every effort to foster the social role of this game.

Anatoly Karpov is involved in various international programs including ecological ones and for more than 12 years has been UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador.
