The New School Year in the Art Institutes of the Russian Academy of Arts

The new school year started on October 3, 2011 in two higher educational entities of the Russian Academy of Arts: V. Surikov Moscow State Academy Art Institute and I. Repin St. Petersburg State Academy Institute of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture.

The President of the Russian Academy of Arts Zurab Tsereteli and a new rector of V. Surikov Moscow State Academy Art Institute Anatoly Lyubavin congratulated the first-year students of V. Surikov Art Institute and wished them success in their study. The Vice-President of the RAA Lev Shepelev, Vice-President Michael Kurilko-Ryumin who has been teaching theatrical and decorative painting at the Institute for 50 years, Professor Tatyana Nazarenko noted the significance of the preservation of traditions, direct creative work of students with recognized masters who share both their professional skills and life experience.

In 2011/2012, the Painting Department numbers 58 students, Graphic Art Department – 21, Sculpture Department – 9, Department of Architecture – 12, Department of Theory and History of Arts – 33. The academic school also attracts students from other countries, this year these are 11 students from China, France, Ukraine, Latvia, Belorus, Kyrgyzstan. The students will study in the repaired, well-equipped, spacious rooms.

At present, in Russia there is a multilevel system of art education including aesthetic education in preschool entities; comprehensive and art school, art colleges – the secondary art education and art institutes offering the higher art education.
