Official Opening of the Solo Show of Works by Nelson Shanks in Moscow

The official opening of the solo show of works by the American painter Nelson Shanks in Tsereteli Art Gallery in Moscow took place on September 16, 2011. It was attended by the President of the Russian Academy of Arts Zurab Tsereteli, the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary U.S. Ambassador to the Russian Federation John Beyrle, diplomats, businessmen and figures of culture.

The exhibition features almost 50 paintings of various years from museum and private collections including a portrait gallery of the celebrities, among them are Pope John Paul II, Margaret Thatcher, musicians Mstislav Rostropovich and Luciano Pavarotti, Princess Diana and many others.

At the ceremony, Zurab Tsereteli presented the Gold Cross of the Russian Academy of Arts For Services to Art to the U.S. Ambassador to Russia John Beyrle. Nelson Shanks was presented with the regalia of an Honorary Member of the Russian Academy of Arts. Zurab Tsereteli thanked Greg Gurov, President of the International Foundation for Art and Education for his assistance in the organization of the exhibition.
