Opening of the New Exposition in Honor of the 10th Anniversary of Tsereteli Art Gallery

On September 2, 2011 at 6 pm the Russian Academy of Arts, Moscow Museum of Contemporary Art of the Russian Academy of Arts and Moscow Museum of Modern Art will present a new exposition in honor of the 10th anniversary of Tsereteli Art Gallery, 19 Prechistenka street.

The creative work of Zurab Tsereteli, the prominent artist, President of the Russian Academy of Arts, People’s Artist of the USSR and the Russian Federation, UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador is an integral part of Russian and world culture. In his works are uniquely combined innovations, interest in avant-garde and respect for national traditions and the academic school which the artist mastered in his student years.

The establishment of this complex restored in 1998-2000 according to Tsereteli’s concept is one of the artist’s significant charitable cultural initiatives. It has become an attraction for many lovers of art, as well as one of the top sights of Moscow that is frequently visited by heads of states, high ranking foreign guests and governmental delegations, representatives of the diplomatic corps and figures of culture.

For this decade Tsereteli Art Gallery has offered its visitors a permanent exposition of the master’s works, as well as numerous major exhibition projects devoted to various types of Russian and foreign fine arts, architecture and design. The Gallery hosted international photo biennales, shows of contemporary artists from many countries of Europe and America, exhibitions arranged within Russia-France, Russia-Italy, Russia-Spain Cross Culture Years. Of major interest were displays from collections of provincial museums and shows dedicated to the history of the Russian Academy of Arts.

The new exposition presents mostly recent works by Zurab Tsereteli including his sculptural compositions, paintings, graphic works and enamels, the series “My Contemporaries” enriched by new sculptural portraits. It is a rare opportunity to appreciate the diversity of themes and virtuosity of the artist in their implementation in various techniques and media.

Zurab Tsereteli gives here his monthly master classes in painting that are very popular with young artists of Moscow, Moscow region and cities of Central Russia. In Tsereteli Art Gallery are traditionally held defenses of diploma works by graduates of the Russian Academy of Arts’ institutes, the Day of the First-Year Students and the Day of Knowledge for students of the Academy’s Lyceum in Moscow. The Gallery also offers popular cycles of musical concerts.
