Gift of the Sculptor Alexander Burganov to the City of Orel

In honor of the 200th anniversary of the Patriotic War of 1812 to be celebrated in the early autumn of 2012 the prominent sculptor, Academician of the Russian Academy of Arts, People’s Artist of Russia, Honorary Member of the Academy of Architecture and Construction Sciences, winner of the USSR State Prize Alexander Burganov presented as a gift to the city of Orel a model of his 5m high equestrian monument to General Ermolov.

The sculptor has been working on the monument to the hero of the War of 1812 for more than five years. The model has been exhibited in the Ermolov Hall of the War and History Museum in Orel. Another 1m high model is on display in the courtyard of the Moscow State Museum “Burganov House”. Such presentation aimed at the open discussion makes the idea of the monument a really public action.

The distinguished sculptor Alexander Burganov is an author of many monuments that found their home in cities of Russia, Belgium, Germany, Mongolia, the United States, France and other countries. For the city of Orel he has created his monuments to the Heroes of the Civil War and to Heroes-Komsomol Members of the Orel Region. Alexander Burhanov has been honored with high state awards of Russia and other countries, as well as the Russian Orthodox Church.
