Mikhail Abakumov Commemoration Meeting

Mikhail Abakumov commemoration meeting will take place on July 19, 2011 at 5 pm in the White Hall of the Russian Academy of Arts. Mikhail Abakumov (1948-2010), People’s Artist of the Russian Federation, Winner of the State Prize, Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Arts, Honorary Citizen of the city of Kolomna is well known for his landscapes distinguished by his “pictorial” voice – it is a voice of our contemporary who struggles to cope with the dynamics of today’s life and a thirst for contemplation and peace.

“I love to paint a sunlight. To convey the God’s light in the picture is a happiness. I want to glorify this light” – said the artist.

Mikhail Abakumov was born in Kolomna, Moscow region in 1948.
In 1968 he finished M. Kalinin Moscow Art College.
In 1977 - graduated from the Art Department of the All-Russian State Institute of Cinematography
In 1983 – worked in creative workshops of the USSR Academy of Arts under Academicians A. P Tkachev, S.P Tkachev and A.M. Gritsay

Since 1975 – frequent participant in exhibitions
In 1989, 1995, 1997, 1998, 2001 and 2004 – solo shows in Moscow
In 2003 and 2004 – solo shows in Paris, France

Since 1980 – Member of the Artists’ Union of Russia
1993 – Honored Artist of Russia
2001 – People’s Artist of Russia

1975, 1987 – Diplomas of the USSR Academy of Arts
1995 – Gold Medal of the Russian Academy of Arts
In 2002 – V.K. Byalynitsky-Birulya Republican Prize
2010 – Winner of Arkady Plastov Prize

He taught in V. Surikov Moscow State Academy Art Institute, Teachers’ Training Institute in Kolomna
Mikhail Abakumov’s works are in the State Tretykov Gallery, museums and galleries in Moscow, St. Petersburg, Voronezh, Serpukhov, Ryazan, Kirovsk, Vologda, Tambov, Krasnoyarsk, Tomsk, Vyatka, Sarov, Zaraisk, Kolomna, Obninsk, in the ACEAN Headquarters in Indonesia, in private collection abroad.
