Geraldine Chaplin Visited Tsereteli Art Gallery in Moscow

On June 24th, 2011 Geraldine Chaplin, daughter of the great Charlie Chaplin visited Tsereteli Art Gallery, 19 Prechistenka street. The actress is a Chairman of the Jury of the 33rd Moscow International Film Festival that is now being held in Moscow. The focus of her visit to Tsereteli Art Gallery was an exposition in a special hall dedicated to Charlie Chaplin.

The work of great figures of the 20th century art, fates of celebrated poets, musicians, artists have always inspired Zurab Tsereteli, President of the Russian Academy of Arts, who created vast series of works executed in various types and techniques of fine arts. Paying tribute to eminent creators of the past, Zurab Tsereteli strives to immortalize them for future generations. Well-known is his sculptural cycle “My Contemporaries” portraying figures of Russian art of the 20th-21st century that shows the influence of culture forming the true history of spirit.

The theme of solitude of a creator and at the same time his greatness is constantly depicted in Zurab Tsereteli’s works. The life and personality of Charlie Chaplin, the distinguished actor, film director and musician have been of special interest to Tsereteli who portrayed the image of the great Charlie Chaplin in his paintings, graphic works, sculpture. The artist’s numerous works devoted to the brilliant comic actor and created by him for many years are now on display in a special hall of Tsereteli Art Gallery. The canvases, drawings, monumental and easel sculptures, enamels and 3D enamels, bronze reliefs are a kind of a suite about the Artist, Master and Man. The exposition is very popular with the viewers and stays in memory through its penetrating intonation characteristic for Charlie Chaplin, that was so precisely and finely caught and implemented by Zurab Tsereteli in his works.
