The General Academy Assembly of the Russian Academy of Arts

On March 10, 2011 at the Russian Academy of Arts, 21 Prechistenka street, there was the 572nd General Academy Assembly of the Russian Academy of Arts (RAA), the supreme body of the RAA management. The Assembly was addressed by the RF President’s Advisor for Culture and Art Yuri Laptev who had noted the significant role of the Academy in the preservation of the best traditions of Russian fine arts and architecture, as well as in the formation of the contemporary art process.

The Assembly has summarized the results of the Academy activity for five years since March, 2006 till March, 2011. The attendees heard the account of the President of the Russian Academy of Arts Zurab Tsereteli, accounts of Academicians-Secretaries of art and regional departments of the Russian Academy of Arts and heads of its educational and research institutions.

In his speech, Zurab Tsereteli has focused on key problems relating to the preservation and development of the academic art school in the Academy’s two art educational entities: I. Repin St. Petersburg State Academy Institute of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture and V. Surikov Moscow State Academy Art Institute.

The Vice-President of the Russian Academy of Arts Tair Salakhov has informed about the international activity of the President of the Russian Academy of Arts Zurab Tsereteli and the Academy’s members aimed at the promotion of the prestige of the Russian Academy of Arts in the world. It includes international exhibitions, international research conferences and master classes, installation of monuments in various countries and many other creative contacts. The major events of the cross culture year Russia-France in 2010 were exhibitions of the Russian Academy of Arts in the prestigious venues of Paris: “The Russian Academy of Arts: Space of Academic School” in the Orangerie, Senate of France, Palais du Luxemburg; “The Russian Academy of Arts: Persons, Events, Facts of History” in the exhibition halls of the French Academy of Arts; Dialogue of Cultures in the Space of Academic School at the UNESCO Headquarters.

For the above period, the Russian Academy of Arts has hosted over 300 exhibitions, almost 140 shows were arranged in other venues, about 60 exhibitions were organized in the regional departments of the Academy. Viewers of 74 cities of Russia had an opportunity to see solo shows of works by the President of the Russian Academy of Arts Zurab Tsereteli. Numerous solo exhibitions of the Academy’s Academicians and Corresponding Members were held in many cities of Russia and other countries.

The research and publishing activity of the Academy includes over 3000 published articles, over 350 books and monographs.

The General Academy Assembly has elected new members of the Presidium and approved a program of further development of the Russian Academy of Arts.
