The President of the European Academy of Sciences and Arts Felix Unger Took Part in the Session of the Presidium of the Russian Academy of Arts

On March 30, Felix Unger, President of the European Academy of Sciences and Arts, Honorary Member of the Russian Academy of Arts and Leo Bokeria, Director of A.N. Bakulev Research Center for Cardiovascular Surgery, Honorary Member of the Russian Academy of Arts took part in the session of the Presidium of the Russian Academy of Arts devoted to the discussion of the program of international cooperation between the above Academies within the framework of the development of fundamental investigations.

The International Research Conference “Art and Science in Modern World” held by the Russian Academy of Arts in partnership with the Russian Academy of Sciences in November, 2010 has been the first experience in dealing with the problems of synthesis of diverse approaches in the understanding of human vital functions.

The renowned cardiologist, President of the European Academy of Sciences and Arts Felix Unger has noted that the idea of the community of art and science expressed by the President of the Russian Academy of Arts Zurab Tsereteli is of big interest to him. He believes, that the science and art are equally important. The creativity exists both in science and art differing only in means and forms. “Everything rises to the level of art when we do something for people. A good physician is also art. We support the initiatives of the Russian Academy of Arts aimed at our close cooperation” – said Felix Unger.

On March 6, 2010 the European Academy of Sciences and Arts, one of the founders of which is Prof. Felix Unger, celebrated its 20th anniversary. The European Academy of Sciences and Arts is a transnational organization which activities cover a wide range of European problems. It numbers over 1200 members including His Holiness Pope Benedict XVI and 27 Nobel Prize winners. In 2009 the President of the Russian Academy of Arts Zurab Tsereteli was elected as its Active Member.

The participants of the session also appreciated the results of the restoration of a unique canvas by the French master Andre Brouillet “Reception of the Russian Emperor Nicholas II at the French Academy. October 7, 1896”.

On the occasion of the jubilee of the celebrated cardiologist Leo Bokeria, the Academician of the Russian Academy of Arts Igor Obrosov presented him with a portrait of Leo Bokeria and his teacher – the noted heart surgeon Vladimir Burakovsky. Leo Bokeria thanked the artist for his generous gift.
