Exhibition of Works From the New Jerusalem Museum in Tsereteli Art Gallery

On May 27, 2008 Tsereteli Art Gallery presents an exhibition of paintings and drawings  from the collection of the New Jerusalem History and Art Museum.  The collection amassed since 1977 includes works by artists of informal Soviet art and their disciples.

The exhibition features little known works by noted masters of informal art such as  Alexander Osmerkin, Robert Falk,  Arthur Fonvizin,  Alexander Shevchenko.

Of big interest is a section displaying works of artists who started out in the years of post-Revolutionary explosion of diverse artistic styles and movements.  In the 1930s they were thrown out of the Soviet formal art process on the ground of their bold creative searches and experiments. Visitors can see works by L. Zheghin,  R. Barto, L. Soloviev, B. Ox, M. Sokolov, V. Milashevsky.

The exposition mirrors the succession of generations. On display  are works by  A. Slepyshev, N. Andronov, V. Kalinin,  N. Nesterova, I. Starzhenetskaya, M. Elkonin, I. Kupryashina, V. Weisberg, A. Grositsky and others. Their art of the second half of the 20th century, ranging from abstract and primitive  to figurative art, proves that  the language of painting has been enriched by new discoveries in art forms.
