IN HONOR OF THE 80TH JUBILEE OF THE HONORARY FOREIGN MEMBER OF THE RUSSIAN ACADEMY OF ARTS BAN KI-MOON

On June13, 2024 the public figure and diplomat, the eighth Secretary-General of the United Nations, the Honorary Foreign Member of the Russian Academy of Arts Ban Ki-moon is marking his 80th jubilee.

 Ban Ki-moon received a Bachelor’s degree in international relations from Seoul National University in 1970 and in 1985 earned a Master of Public Administration from John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University. Since 1985 he worked for the South-Korean Ministry of Foreign Affairs and for his long diplomatic career held a number of key state positions. In 2006, Ban Ki-moon was appointed the eighth Secretary-General of the United Nations and re-elected for the second five-year term in 2011. In this position the diplomat sought to establish a constant and constructive intercultural dialogue based on common values and goals. He considered the increase in the efficiency of the Organization activity and strengthening of mutual trust among its Members as the main directions of his work.

 The Russian Academy of Arts has congratulated Mr. Ban Ki-moon on his jubilee. The Letter of Greeting, in particular, runs:

 “Dear Mr. Ban Ki-moon,

     On behalf of the Presidium of the Russian Academy of Arts I would like to congratulate You on Your 80th jubilee. In the position of the Secretary-General of the United Nations and for your long diplomatic career You have made a great contribution to maintaining peace on the planet and solving the most important problems of mankind, achieved success in sustainable development and education. Your achievements have been highly appreciated by awards of many countries including the Russian Order of Friendship.

    I wish you brilliant health, further success in Your multi-sided activity and personal well-being”.
