On November 8, 2023 at 16.00 in the “Apple Hall” of the Russian Academy of Arts (19 Prechistenka street, Moscow) and there will be a master class in stained glass by the Moscow artist of monumental art Vladimir Mikhailov.
The master class is dedicated to one of the major types of monumental and decorative art – stained glass window. The evolution of the technique and technology of the stained glass production can be traced from the oldest monuments to modern works. The first part of the master class deals with the theory of stained glass, its techniques, technologies and materials, then the artist will show the creation process for a segment of the author’s stained glass. The attendance is free.
Vladimir V. Mikhailov was born in Moscow in 1974. In 1992 he finished the Moscow Secondary Art School, in 1977 – graduated from the Art Glass Department of S. Stroganov Moscow Academy of Arts and Industry. According to the artist’s words he “has always been eager to create monumental artworks, to combine glass and metal in architecture”. Since 1997, he has executed more than 1000 stained glasses including such distinguished works as “The Diamonds of Yakutia” panel of 40 square meters for the Culture House of the town of Udachny (The Republic of Yakutia-Sakha); stained glass windows for St. Peter and Paul church in the Starosadsky Lane in Moscow and for the Oak Hall of the Moscow Central House of Writers; stained glass decoration for the church of St. Spyridon of Trimythous in Nagatinsky Zaton (Moscow) and the church of St. Stephen of Perm in the Southern Butovo (Moscow); the Cathedral of the town of Gorlovka; stained glass monument to the spaceman Alexey A. Leonov in the town of Gagarin; as well as works for religious and civil buildings, commissions for decoration of private houses, restaurants. The geography of the artist’s works is vast: from London to Cote d’Azur in the West to Yakutia in the East. Vladimir Mikhailov has been the leading restorer of the stained glass windows of “Novoslobodskaya” underground station in Moscow. The artist has been a constant participant of exhibitions of monumental and decorative arts. The recent solo exhibition of the master has been presented in the Hall of Religious Assemblies of the Cathedral of Christ the Savior.
