On November 1, 2023 at 16.00 in the White Hall of the Russian Academy of Arts (21 Prechistenka street, Moscow) and on November 6, 2023 at the artist’s studio (9 Palikha street, Moscow) there will be two master classes of the artist of decorative art, Honored Artist of the Russian Federation, Academician of the Russian Academy of Arts, Prof. Sergey V. Gavin.
The master classes are dedicated to one of the types of monumental and decorative art - tapestries. The evolution of the technique and technology of the tapestry production can be traced from the earliest monuments to modern works. The master class is divided into two parts: the first – the theoretical one will take place in the White Hall of the Russian Academy of Arts in the lecture format with video presentation of the process of tapestry creation, the second - the practical one - in the artist’s studio. The attendance is free.
Sergey V. Gavin was born in Moscow in 1953. In 1972 he graduated from M. Kalinin Moscow Art and Industry College, in 1977 – the Department for Graphic Art of the Moscow State Teachers Training Institute. Since 1978 Gavin worked for the Industrial Complex of Applied Arts of the Moscow State Art Foundation of the Russian Federation. Since 2008 Gavin has been teaching at S. Stroganov Moscow Academy of Arts and Industry. The artist has authored tapestries and curtains for theaters, concert halls, conference halls, cinema houses in many cities of Russia. His works have been exhibited in museums in England, Germany, Italy, Norway, Poland, USA, France and other countries.
