On October 18, 3023 in the Apple Hall of the Museum and Exhibition Complex of the Russian Academy of Arts (21 Prechistenka street, Moscow) there was a ceremony for cancellation of four postage stamps from the series “Contemporary Art of Russia” dedicated to monuments of the city of Samara.
The Ceremony has been attended by the President of the Russian Academy of Arts Zurab K. Tsereteli, Head of the State Duma Committee for Information Policy, Information Technologies and Communication, Coordinator of the Federal Project “Historical Memory” of the United Russia party Alexander E. Khinstein, and the First Secretary of the Artists’ Union of Russia, Academician of the Russian Academy of Arts Nickolai I. Borovskoi, as well authors of the sculptures.
The state postage stamps are real works of art. Already for 165 years they have been reflecting the main achievements and successes of the nation, its nature, culture and traditions thus executing the important mission of the patriotic education and preservation the memory of the past for future generations. The stamp series “Contemporary Art of Russia” has been initiated in 2012. In 2023, as part of the “Historical Memory” Federal Project of the United Russia party the postage stamps perpetuate the monument to Yuri Detochkin by the sculptor Ivan I. Melnikov (2012), monument to Comrade Sukhov by Konstantin R. Chernyavsky (2012), the sculptural composition “Pinocchio” by Stepan O. Karslyan (2013) and sculptural composition “Uncle Styopa – Policeman” by Zurab Tsereteli (2015) located in Samara. The stamps’ artistic design is made by Olga Savina. The circulation of the postage stamp with a nominal value of 65 rubles has amounted to 60.000 copies of each plot and a special souvenir stamp has been produced for their cancellation.
“We promote the cultural heritage of this country. I am confident, that the postage stamps which went into circulation and on sale today will be loved by philatelists and collectors. No matter how many years pass, they will live. Looking at the stamps people in various cities of Russia and abroad will learn about the sculptures of Uncle Styopa and Pinocchio. From the educational point of view postage stamps are of great significance”, - noted Alexander Khinstein.
