IN HONOR OF THE HONORARY MEMBER OF THE RUSSIAN ACADEMY OF ARTS JIRI SHUHAJEK

On April 4, 2023 the foreign Honorary Member of the Russian Academy of Arts Jiri Shuhajek is marking his 80th Jubilee.

 

Jiri Shuhajek is a famous Czech art glass artist whose contribution to the promotion of the Czech art glass traditions has been internationally recognized. His original art is distinguished by improvisational character. He works in a free manner playing with molten glass mass and creating silhouettes of generalized and mystifying forms. Jiri Shuhajek studied at the Higher Art School in Prague in the studio of the artist Stanislav Libensky. He started his professional career at the Moser Glass Company in 1962. The artist also worked for the most famous glass manufacturers such as “Murano” in Venice and “Bohemia” in the Czech Republic. Jiri Shuhajek has been actively involved in international art glass symposiums where he gives master classes sharing his rich experience in art glass design and production. Among his pupils are noted international and Russian art glass makers including members of the Russian Academy of Arts. In 2007 the artist took part in the 2nd International Art Glass Symposium in Gus- Khrustalny (Russia) dedicated to the 250th anniversary of the Russian Academy of Arts.

 

The Presidium and the President of the Russian Academy of Arts have congratulated Jiri Shuhajek on his 80th jubilee. The Letter of Greetings, in particular, runs:

“Dear Mr. Shuhajek,

     On behalf of the Presidium of the Russian Academy of Arts I would like to extend to you our congratulations on your Jubilee! The Academy highly appreciates you contribution to the international cooperation between masters of art glass. You are a frequent participant in art glass symposiums and master classes in Russia. The Master of glass, you share your rich and invaluable experience with the new generation of artists, constantly maintain creative contacts with the leading art glass makers in many countries. I sincerely wish you good health, creative inspiration, further success and inexhaustible optimism of the soul”.
