It is with deep sorrow that the Russian Academy of Arts learnt about the death of the Honorary Member of the Russian Academy of Arts Gocha G. Chogovadze, the scientist, diplomat, public and political figure, Doctor of Engineering, Professor, our colleague and dear friend.

The UNESCO circle of outstanding people and the cultural community have suffered a heavy loss. On June 13, 2022 passed away the creative personality, brilliant researcher, Academician of the National Academy of Sciences of Georgia, author of more than 20 monographs and a number of scientific works in the field of computer science and automated control systems, pioneer in the studies of the computer science impact on the development of education. Forty four years ago Gocha Chogovadze became the head of the UNESCO Department for Computer Science in Education, he chaired the Committee for Science and Education of Georgia and was a Rector of the Georgian Technological University. Gocha Chogovadze was elected a member of the UNESCO Executive Board and became its Vice-President, until the last days he actively participated in the work of the Institute for Information Technologies in Education. The expert who enjoyed great authority, one of the eminent representatives of the creative intellectuals of these days, the man of deep culture and encyclopedic knowledge he was always open to a dialogue, could justify and correctly convey his point of view. Gocha Chogovadze served as the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Georgia to the French Republic and the Kingdom of Spain, as the Permanent Representative of Georgia to UNESCO and consistently provided full support to the promotion of culture and art. It is impossible to overestimate Gocha Chogovadze’s contribution to strengthening of international ties. He was actively involved in the implementation of many international exhibition projects of Russian artists held under the auspices of UNESCO and initiated the inclusion of the 250th anniversary of the Russian Academy of Arts in the UNESCO calendar of special dates. The man of great and multi-sided talent Gocha Chogovadze had an extraordinary gift of creating an unparalleled atmosphere of creativity. He will always remain in our memory as a strong, handsome and optimistic man.

It is a huge and irreparable loss for me and the Tsereteli family. My very close friend, the creator with whom we have been going through our life for many years has passed away. We sympathize with his family and near ones, grieve and share their pain. The Presidium of the Russian Academy of Arts expresses our deep condolences. Let the memory of Gocha Chogovadze be eternal.
