IN HONOR OF THE JUBILEE OF THE HONORARY MEMBER OF THE RUSSIAN ACADEMY OF ARTS ISOLDE MARIA JOHAM

28.05.2022 -

On May 28, 2022 the Austrian artist, Honorary Member of the Russian Academy of Arts Isolde Maria Joham is marking her 90th jubilee.

Isolde Joham graduated fr om the College of Applied Arts in Wien (now University, 1949-1954), wh ere she majored in painting under Eduard Baumer and stayed at the College as a teacher, for some time she headed the Chair for Art Glass Design. At the early stage of her career she executed stained glass windows for the Museum of Applied Arts in Wien and for the Catholic churches of the Holy Cross and the Sacred Heart of Jesus in the German town of Selb. Though, since the 1980s, Isolde Joham devoted her talent and efforts mostly to painting, this experience was very precious: her canvases are distinguished by monumental dimensions and large compositional close-ups. Among the main topics of her work are complex interactions between nature and technology, blurring of boundaries and disruption of the balance between man and machine.

Today, in the light of current challenges and problems her canvases seem visionary. Unfortunately. the artist's works are not well-known to the wide public. And everyone who sees them is amazed how it could happened. We hope, that the jubilee events will prove the huge scale of Isolde Joham's personality.

The Presidium and President of the Russian Academy of Arts Zurab Tsereteli have congratulated Isolde Maria Joham on her 90th jubilee. The Letter of Greetings, in particular, runs:
"The artist of versatile talent who witnessed the global upheavals and transformations of the society, you have devoted your work to understanding of the place of a man in today's world, in which his role is being radically changed. The unique stained glass windows created by you reflect your position of upholding universal human values and understanding of humanity's responsibility of its actions. Your works in painting and applied arts emphasize the individuality of a person, his inner world and connection with nature. For many years you have been involved in the teaching activity and generously shared not only your knowledge in painting, graphics and art glass, but also contributed to the promotion of a dialogue of cultures while preserving the identity of each of them.
On behalf of the Presidium of the Russian Academy of Arts I wish you good health and powers of the soul, inexhaustible sources of creative inspiration, happiness and prosperity to your family".
Zurab Tsereteli, President of the Russian Academy of Arts
