THE THEME OF DEATH AND IMMORTALITY IN FINE ARTS OF THE NEW AND MODERN TIMES: ALL-RUSSIAN RESEARCH CONFERENCE AT THE RUSSIAN ACADEMY OF ARTS
27.11.2019 - 28.11.2019
The Ministry of Culture, the Research institute of Theory and History of Fine Arts of the Russian Academy of Arts invite you to take part in the All-Russian research conference “The Theme of Death and Immortality in Fine Arts of the New and Modern Times”, that will take place at the Russian Academy of Arts (21 Prechistenka street Moscow) on November 27-28, 2019.
The Conference deals with one of the eternal themes of world art connected with the essence of human existence in general and an individual in particular. The death as a motif of an artwork, the idea of it expressed by means of fine arts are only a few points of the “cultural landscape” that is offered for discussion.
In ancient times and the Middle Ages the theme of death was governed by common religious and mythological beliefs, but since the Renaissance the view of death and its meaning for human life has been individualized. It is important to emphasize, that the main topic of the Conference is not traditional directions of religious, symbolic and allegorical art, but the innovations that the new and modern times brought into European visual culture. The delicate balance of the usual and unusual in the perception of existential problems, the crisis of religious doctrines, the coexistence of the beautiful and ugly in the artistic texture are the most complicated tasks to be solved by interpreters of art and the theme of death.
