The Russian Academy Of Arts

On June 21, 2017 at St. Peter Square in the Belgian Liege there was an unveiling ceremony for the 2.4 m tall bronze statue of the Russian Emperor Peter I (1672-1725) timed to the 300th anniversary of the second Grand Tour of Peter I to Europe in 1717.    

The unveiling ceremony was attended by the Russian Ambassador to Belgium Alexander Tokovinin, Permanent  Representative of the RF to NATO Alexander Grushko, Governor of the Liege Province Herve Jamar, Grand Duke Georgy M. Romanov, the Archbishop of Brussels and Belgium Simon, diplomats, representatives of the public and business community. The monument was installed on the joint initiative of the Liege regional administration and Foundation Pierre le Grand under the support of the Russian Embassy in Belgium, representative offices of Rossotrudnichestvo, Gazprom, Lukoil and other companies. The author of the monument is the Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Arts Alexander Taratynov.

About Alexander Taratynov  

Alexander Taratynov is s noted Russian sculptor, Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Arts. His works are in the State Tretyakov Gallery and many other museum and private collections. Among the monumental works by Alexander Taratynov are: “The Night Watch” monumental composition (in partnership with Mickhail Dronov, on the motif of the Night Watch canvas by Rembrandt, 2012, Amsterdam); statue of the Queen of the Netherlands (2000, Hague, Netherlands); monument to Alexander Pushkin (2002, Podgorica, Montenegro); statue of Peter III (2014, Germany); monuments “To the Fallen Soldiers of Russia. 1814” (2014. in Reims, Fere-Champenoise, Vertus, France), etc.
