Memorial Plaque Commemorating the Diplomat Alexandra Kollontai Was Unveiled in Moscow

On March 28, 2017 there was an unveiling ceremony for a memorial plaque commemorating the eminent Soviet statesman and diplomat Alexandra Kollontai (1872-1952) installed on the façade of the house in 11 Leninsky Prospect where she lived in 1945-1952.

The ceremony was attended by the Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, members of  Alexandra Kollontai’s family, representatives of the Foreign Ministry of Russia, the President of the Russian Academy of Arts, UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador, People’s Artist of Russia Zurab Tsereteli – the author of memorial plaque who presented it as his gift.

Alexandra Kollontai was appointed the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the USSR to Norway (1924-1926, 1927-1930) and was one of the first women to hold such a post. Later, she was also the Soviet Ambassador to Sweden and Mexico. A statesman of high erudition and diplomatic vision with the knowledge of several foreign languages she made a significant contribution to the solution of many international crisis situations of that time.
