The Russian Academy Of Arts

On July 12, 2013 in Ekaterinburg in the Regional Museum of Local History there was an opening of the exhibition project “The Romanovs. At the Break of Russian History” organized in honor of the 400th anniversary of the Romanov Dynasty. The exhibition had been timed to the date of the assassination of the last Russian Emperor Nicholas II and members of his family at the Ipatiev house in Ekaterinburg at the night of July 16-17, 1918.

The opening ceremony was attended by the Culture Minister of the Sverdlovsk Region Pavel Krekov, Metropolitan of Ekaterinburg Cyril, heads of museums and figures of culture. In connection with this event the President of the Russian Academy of Arts, UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador Zurab Tsereteli presented his sculptural composition “Night at the Ipatiev House” as a gift to the city of Ekaterinburg. The assassinated members of the royal family were canonized because of their deaths as martyrs.

The artist is confident that “people, especially younger generations, should know their history”. Zurab Tsereteli’s creative work proves his interest in the most important and fateful events in Russian history. He has created a vast gallery of eminent figures of the Russian state including monuments to Emperor Peter the Great in Moscow and St. Petersburg, Russian Emperors Paul I, Alexander I, Alexander II, Alexander III, Empress Catherine the Great and other members of the Russian royal dynasty.  

This year, when the 400th anniversary of the Romanov Dynasty is being marked in Russia and other countries, for his achievements in art and charitable activity Zurab Tsereteli  has been awarded the Russian Imperial Order of St. Anna. The Order was presented to the renowned artist by the head of the Russian Imperial House, Her Highness Grand Duchess Maria Vladimirovna.
