As the Spanish Ambassador has put it at the ceremony, the Spanish King Juan Carlos I by his Decree dated December 20, 2011 awarded this one of the highest Spanish orders to Zurab Tsereteli and Vasily Tseretely for recognition of their outstanding contribution to the strengthening of bilateral relations between Russia and Spain in the field of culture. “Zurab Tsereteli efficiently assists the Spanish Embassy in Moscow in the promotion of cultural ties between the two countries, he maintains fruitful relations with Spanish museums and artists and has devoted a part of his creative work as a sculptor and artist to Spain” – said the Ambassador.

Luis Felipe Fernandez de la Pena has also highly appreciated a big contribution of Vasily Tsereteli to the arrangement of exhibitions of Spanish artists in Russia including those held during Russia-Spain Cross Culture Year 2011.

In Spain there are two sculptural compositions by Zurab Tsereteli: Birth of a New Man monument in Seville (1995) and Victory monument in Marbella (1996). In the courtyard of the Spanish Ambassador’s residence in Moscow stands the author’s replica of his Good Defeats Evil monument in New York (1991).
