On December 21, 2011 at the 10th jubilee award ceremony the Director-General of the Russian Authors’ Society Sergey Fedorov presented the Prize For the Promotion of Science, Culture and Art to Svetlana Volodina, the Honored Figure of Culture of the Russian Federation, PhD in Art History, Advisor to the Presidium of the Russian Academy of Arts.
“For over 30 years Svetlana Volodina has been collaborating with the Russian Authors’ Society. Her translations of French authors have been a great success and are in good demand. The plays translated by Svetlana Volodina have become a basis for film scripts and are in repertoires of many theaters” – said Sergey Fedorov presenting the Prize.
Svetlana Volodina thanked the Russian Authors’ Society for the high appreciation of one of the most noble professions of the Russian intelligentsia – a translator of foreign literature into the Russian language.
The honorary Prize of the Russian Authors’ Society For the Promotion of Science, Culture and Art is annually awarded to representatives of the creative intellectuals who made a significant contribution to preservation and enrichment of the national culture.
For 10 years, many distinguished scientists and figures of culture have been winners of the Prize, these are Alexandra Pakhmutova, Tikhon Khrennikov, Andrey Eshpai, Andrey Petrov, Maya Plisetsskaya, Rodion Schedrin, Zhores Alferov, Yury Grigorovich, Edward Artemiev, Joseph Kobzon, Vladimir Vasiliev, Irina Arkhipova and others.
This year, the Prize has been also awarded to the People’s Artist of Russia, Honored Art Worker of the Republic of Tatarstan, composer Eugeny Biktashev; Honored Art Worker of the Russian Federation, playwright, script writer, producer Victor Merezhko, Director-General of “Soyuz” Studio Alexander Bochkov; theater set-designer Sergey Barkhin; Editor-in-Chief of “Culture” magazine Elena Yampolskaya.
