Tsereteli Will Unveil His Monument to Musketeers in Gascony

Moscow. August 31. INTERFAX.RU – The sculptor Zurab Tsereteli on the oncoming Saturday will unveil in France, in the historical area of Gascony (Gascogne) on the land of d’Artagnan his monument to the legendary characters of Alexander Duma’s novel “The Tree Musketeers”, as Interfax was informed on Tuesday at the Russian Academy of Arts.

They have said there, that this monument designed by Zurab Tsereteli will be a gift to France. The monumental bronze composition “Musketeeers” that depicts Athos, Porthos, Aramis and d’Artagnan crossing their swords has been presented to Senator Emery de Montesquieu, a descendant of d’Artagnan family, who in his turn gave it to the city which is considered to be the Musketeers’ capital.

The “Musketeers” sculptural composition is 290cm high, its diameter is almost 5 meters, it weights 5 tons.

It is expected, that the unveiling ceremony on September 4th, will be attended by the sculptor Zurab Tsereteli, representatives of the diplomatic corps, UNESCO Director-General Irina Bokova, captain of the French musketeers Emery de Montesquieu, as well as celebrated Russian actors who played the roles of Dumas’ heroes in the film “The Three Musketeers”.
