According to the Protocol signed on 3 December 2009 during the Russian-Italian intergovernmental summit, the year of 2011 is a Year of Russian Culture and Language in Italy and the Year of Italian Culture and Language in Russia.
Russia and Italy have longstanding cultural links. Italy has always been a mecca for Russian painters, poets and novelists. Many Italian architects, sculptors, musicians and artists created their works in Russia. The holding of Russia-Italy Cross Culture Year in 2011 is a major action aimed at increasing Russian-Italian partnership and a rare opportunity to show to the wide public in Russia and Italy the best achievements of masters of art and culture.
The active involvement in the program of events in honor of the Russia-Italy Cross Culture Year is one of the priorities in the activity of the Russian Academy of Arts in 2011.
