One of the priorities in the activity of the Russian Academy of Arts is its active involvement in the implementation of the large-scale international project “Year Russia – France 2010”. The President of the Russian Academy of Arts Zurab Tsereteli has been leading the work on its concept and structure of the exhibitions to be organized within the project. These are unique works from the collection of the Research Museum of the Russian Academy of Arts in St. Petersburg, shows of works by the imposing corps of members of the Academy representing diverse types of fine arts, design and architecture.

1. THE RUSSIAN ACADEMY OF ARTS: SPACE OF ACADEMIC SCHOOL

Structure of the Exhibition:
Painting, graphic art, sculpture, architectural projects, applied art, photo- and video installations of renowned masters of Russian art.
The exhibition features works by modern artists-members of the Russian Academy of Arts. Among them are Z.K. Tsereteli, A.A. Mylnikov, E.I. Zverkov, T.T. Salakhov, P.M. Korzhev, B.I. Ivanov, D.D. Zhilinsky, B.A. Messerer, A.A. Bichukov, A.G. Akritas, V.M. Sidorov, M.M. Kurilko-Ryumin, A.D. Shmarinov, V.E. Tsygal, G.M. Korzhev, M.M. Posokhin, N.A. Mukhin, E.N. Maximov, A.M. Rukavishnikov, P.F. Nikonov, T.A. Nazarenko, I.P. Obrosov, E.S. Kocherghin, etc.
“The Russian Academy of Arts: Space of Academic School” exhibition project aims to show the history and main development stages of the Academy of Arts in Russia. One of the principle goals is to specify the originality of the Russian academic art school, as well as to emphasize the significant role of the French culture in the formation of the academic art school in Russia, which is a unique model of the classical art education based on the centuries-old European fine arts development.
Today, the Russian Academy of Arts unites recognized masters of fine arts and architecture who have made a major contribution to the promotion of Russian and world culture. Among them are Z.K. Tsereteli, A.A. Mylnikov, E.I. Zverkov, T.T. Salakhov, P.M. Korzhev, V.I. Ivanov, D.D. Zhilinsky, V.M. Sidorov, M.M. Kurilko-Ryumin, A.D. Shmarinov, V.E. Tsygal, M.M. Posokhin and many others.
The Academy gives much attention to further development of international ties. Many world renowned figures of fine arts from many countries have been elected its Honorary Members, including outstanding figures of the French culture such as Arnaud d’Hautrives, Pierre Cardin, Helene Carrere d’Ancosse and others.
On show will be works (video materials) from the Research Museum of the Russian Academy of Arts - the first art museum in Russia; paintings, graphic art, sculpture, photographs from the Research Archives representing the main directions of the Academy activity.
2. THE RUSSIAN ACADEMY OF ARTS: PERSONS, EVENTS, FACTS OF HISTORY

Structure of the Exhibition:
Photo- and video materials, archives materials, works of art (serigraphy).
The exhibition project explores three centuries of bilateral cultural ties between Russia and France in the mirror of the history of the Russian Academy of Arts, as well as the unique role of the French culture and significant contribution of prominent French figures of architecture, fine arts and science to the formation of Russian art and academic school.
The highlights of the project are the most meaningful historical facts to be demonstrated in documents, films, photographs, in particular: visit of the Emperor Peter I to France; historical importance of the draft edict of the Emperor dated 1724; Ivan Shuvalov – the first President of the Academy of Arts; Catherine the Great and the Charter of the Academy (1764); construction of the Academy edifice – example of collaboration between the Russian and French architects (Alexander Kokorinov and J.B. Vallen-Delamotte); history of the foundation of the Academy museum and library.
Persons and Events. Members of the Imperial Academy of Arts in various years were: painter Francois Boucher, architect Auguste Montferrand, Denis Didro, Etienne Falconet, Auguste Rodin and others.
