Kanzhal Battle Canvas by Mukhadin Kishev Is On Show in Kabardin-Balkaria Culture Foundation in Nalchik

On  September 24, 2008 Mukhadin Kishev, People’s Artist of Kabardin-Balkaria, Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Arts, Member of the European Academy of Arts presented his latest canvas devoted to the 300th anniversary of the victory of the Kabardians over the Crimean troops in the Battle at the Mount Kanzhal.

The canvas has been painted in the language of Oriental miniature combined with the decorative technique of traditional folk carpet weaving. Through many planes and perspectives the artist covers a large number of the battle’s fragments including the huge Elbrus under the troubled clouds, hundreds of Tatar marquees, horses with burning tails, the Kabardians chasing the enemy’s horde to the steep.

In the foreground there is a decisive clash between the Crimean and Kabardian horsemen. The focus of the painting is a duel of Khan Kaplan Girei with the Supreme Prince of Kabarda Kurgoko Hatokshoko (Atazhukin). Against the background of the battlefield painted in red, the Kabardians stand out in green garments, the Crimean troops are depicted by the artist in the blue color.
