On February 5, 2008 at the Central Artists’ House in Krymski Val was inaugurated Motherland exhibition in honor of the 50th anniversary of the Artists’ Union of Russia. Among the attendees were President of the Russian Academy of Arts Zurab Tsereteli and Head of I. Repin St. Petersburg State Academy Institute of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture Albert Charkin. At the ceremony Zurab Tsereteli presented Full Member of the Russian Academy of Arts, People’s Artist of Russia Sergei Tkachev with the Order for Services to Motherland 3 rank awarded through a decree by President of the Russian Federation.
This landmark exhibition was a major retrospective of works by Russian artists produced for the last half of the 20th century drawn from the State Tretyakov Gallery in Moscow, the State Russian Museum in St. Petersburg and store-rooms of the Ministry for Culture of RF. The display surveyed the main styles and directions of modern art from Realism to Non-Objective art.
Works included paintings by Alexander Samokhvalov, Alexander Deineka, Alexey and Sergei Tkachev, Zurab Tsereteli, Tair Salakhov, George Frangulyan and many other artists, sculptors, graphic artists, theatre designers, masters of decorative and applied art.
