The International exhibition of caricature on the circus theme at the Apple Hall of the Museum and Exhibition Complex of the Russian Academy of Arts has presented 140 cartoons by artists from 43 countries: China, Mongolia, Iran, Germany, Armenia, Brazil, Syria and others. These are the best works from 367 caricatures sent by 83 artists. The initiator of the project Valentin Druzhinin is a noted artist who has worked for many years for the Komsomolskaya Pravda newspaper as a chief caricaturist. He has created 12 prizes for the Competition finalists to be selected by the Competition Jury. The Co-Chairmen of the Jury are the Academician of the Russian Academy of Arts, cartoonist Igor Smirnov and Director General of the New Russian Circus Elizaveta Hamburg. The Jury members: Valentin Druzhinin – artist-cartoonist; Alexander Klischenko – artist-cartoonist; Ramil Farzutdinov – artist-cartoonist; Grigory Ostrovsky – member of the Management Board of the Union of the Circus Figures of Russia; Valery Pavlov – Head of the Museum of the Union of the Circus Figures of Russia.
At the opening ceremony welcomed by Igor Smirnov, Elizaveta Hamburg Academician-Secretary of the Graphic Art Department of the Russian Academy of Arts Alexander Teslik, Chief Editor of the Tretyakov Gallery magazine Alexander Rozhin the winners were awarded the Prizes and Honorary Mentions of the Russian Academy of Arts. The ceremony was accompanied by performances of artists of the New Russian Circus.
