THE JOY OF LIFE: MAJOR RETROSPECTIVE OF WORKS BY THE PEOPLE'S ARTIST OF RUSSIA NICKOLAI BOROVSKOY AT THE RUSSIAN ACADEMY OF ARTS

The Russian Academy of Arts presents a major retrospective of works by the Honored Art Worker of the Russian Federation, People's Artist of Russia, Academician and Member of the Presidium of the Russian Academy of Arts Nickolai Borovskoy. The exhibition entitled the Joy of Life showcases more than 100 works created by the master for 50 years of his creative biography.

 

"I paint what I know and love" - says the artist about the creation of his canvases. The decorativeness of his pictures, unexpected and witty compositions, expressive images, philosophic interpretation of themes - all this speaks about the artist as a virtuoso of painting. Nickolai Borovskoy is a master of psychological portrait: he subtly conveys the charm of human characters, reveals their complex inner world. In portraits the artist uses a set of techniques typical for him - simple pose, close-up, classical composition, thoughtful colors to show a variety of his models'   emotions and reflections. Almost all the images are documentary and dramatic, they result fr om the artist's life experience whose biography includes difficult after-war childhood (he was born in 1946), working at the factory, army service.

 

To be true to nature is one of the master's main principles regardless of what genre he works in. Nickolai Borovskoy is a recognized master of realistic painting who preserves the best traditions of Russian art school. His started his art education in N. Samokish Crimean Art College, since 1979 studied at V. Surikov Moscow State Art Institute wh ere he majored monumental painting. His work has been highly appreciated, Borovskoy is a holder of many honors and awards, Laureate of the Prize of the Russian Government in Culture, as well as a participant in more than 150 art exhibitions. His canvases are in major state museum collections of Russia and private collections throughout the world. Nikolai Borovskoy is actively involved in public activity as the First Secretary of the Artists' Union of Russia, Chairman of the Moscow Department of the Artists' Union of Russia, Professor of V. Surikov Moscow State Art Institute.
