On November 22, 2021 in the Italian Hall of Ilya Repin St. Petersburg Academy of Arts there will be an opening of the solo exhibition of Victor Kalinin, the First Vice-President and Academician of the Russian Academy of Arts, Honored Artist of Russia. The project entitled The Red Road has been organized under the auspices of the Russian Academy of Arts.

Victor Kalinin was born in the Altai village of Zalesovo in the Old Believers' family in 1946. The deeply religious parents had an undoubted influence on the artist's way of thinking. Victor Kalinin started his art education in V. Surikov Krasnoyarsk Art College, in 1965 graduated fr om Nizhny Novgorod (Gorky) Art College and in 1971 - from S. Stroganov Moscow State Academy of Arts and Industry wh ere he majored in monumental painting under the eminent master of fine arts Geliy Korzhev. In 1995-2006 he taught at the Academic Painting Department of S. Stroganov Academy. Victor Kalinin is a frequent participant of many international group exhibitions in Great Britain, Germany, Denmark, Spain, USA, France, Switzerland, Japan and other countries, as well as participant of international art symposiums in Great Britain, Hungary, Norway, Denmark, Poland, USA and France.

The works by Victor Kalinin who gained fame back in the 1970s - 1980s impress us with their plastic power and energy of color. The artist's canvases in spite of the easel character of the majority of them have always been distinguished by a special monumental spirit. This spirit permeates every form in his paintings - not least thanks to the thick and wide brushstroke, to which the master, who often works with a palette knife, has been always gravitating.

His paintings are imbued with a religious feeling. This is evident not only from the symbolic subtext hidden in almost every of the artist's works, but also in the peculiarities of his author's language, for example, in his dealing with the problem of light. The energy of Victor Kalinin's canvases creates a powerful emotional field between his artworks and the viewers, infects with his images and thoughts all those who are ready to perceive them thoughtfully and sensitively. His art has never lost the feeling of its involvement into the most serious problems concerning our contemporaries.
