Dates:20.10.2020-15.11.2020
Venue: Graphic Art Gallery (Sofia, Bulgaria)
On October 20, the Graphic Art Gallery in Sofia presented an exhibition of graphics by the People's Artist of the USSR and Russia, President of the Russian Academy of Arts Zurab Tsereteli.
The exhibition showcases graphic sheets of the world renowned artist produced in various years. The master's graphic art similar to his painting has created a whole world with its own characters, special space and techniques. The Georgian national culture of Georgia, its folk traditions have become for the artist a source of extraordinary creative inspiration. In his drawings are often depicted genre scenes mostly from the everyday life of old Tbilisi inhabited by its people, musicians, street vendors, janitors, etc. His graphic compositions are a dense mass of strokes and lines with clear and expressive contours which the artist creates like a sculptor.
The exhibition curator Stephan Stoyanov says: "Tsereteli is famous for his grandiose sculptures like the monument to Peter I in Moscow, but much lesser known are his graphics and small sculptures, though it is in these works that the great master's soul can be seen. Zurab Tsereteli's first solo exhibition in Bulgaria tool place in Plovdiv in 2008, today we present his second solo show which reflects the themes that have been urgent for the artist since his early career up to nowadays".
