MY CRIMEA: SOLO EXHIBITION OF WORKS BY VASILY NESTERENKO IN OREL

The Regional Exhibition Center in Orel hosts a solo exhibition of works by the People’s Artist of Russia, Academician of the Russian Academy of Arts Vasily Nesterenko  featuring more than 30 canvases dedicated to the Crimea.

 

Vasily Nesterenko works in diverse genres of painting. Among his canvases are such well-known multi-figured historical paintings as “Triumph of the Russian Navy”, “Moscow Welcomes Heroes of Poltava”, “We Will Defend Sevastopol” and other distinguished works showcasing images of Russian land and characters of our contemporaries.

 

Of special place in his work are religious themes. The artist has participated in the recreation of the interior decoration of the Cathedral of Christ the Savior,  authored  and implemented the concept of wall paintings for the main church of the Old Rusik Skit on mount Athos, at present Vasily Nesterenko is the Chief Artist  of the Cathedral of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation in Kubinka near Moscow.

 

The Crimea is very important to Vasily Nesterenko as a huge layer of Russian history, military glory of Russia and a sacred land for all Orthodox Russians. His numerous visits to the Crimea since his student years have resulted in the creation of many unique canvases, which the viewers will have a rare opportunity to see.
