Michael Lermontov State Museum-Preserve presents a solo exhibition of graphic  works by the People’s Artist of Russia, President of the Russian Academy of Arts Zurab Tsereteli showcasing  the artist’s drawings and serigraphy.

The art of Zurab Tsereteli is difficult to attribute to one or another direction either in the scale of Russian or world art. He is one of those creators who profess their  own “religion” involving other people into it. Tsereteli’s art has become classics  distinguished by its own originality. Drawings are an integral part of the artist’s creative nature. Characters of his works seem to wander fr om sculpture to relief, from enamel to painting, from relief to graphic sheets, they live in the world of the artist’s boundless energy wh ere every topic and character implemented in various materials and techniques, types and genres reveals itself in new facets of their imagery.

The drawing remains a basis of the master’s color graphics which is always full of bright clear colors, sharp combinations of yellow, red, blue with white, black ink on blank paper. The same types as in the drawings – janitors, traders, beggars, ordinary men and women - in color compositions become more generalized and detached. They are absorbed in a special colorful fantasy world, leave the real time for some other time dimension. With equal interest the master studies the reality and immerses into the nature of the unconscious creating works marked by expressive individual character.
