THE BIRTH OF A MASTERPIECE: EXHIBITION OF CARTOONS BY OLEG SUPEREKO FOR PAINTING OF THE CATHEDRAL IN NOTO (SICILY, ITALY)

The Cathedral of the Major in Marseille hosts an exhibition of the Russian artist, Honorary Member of the Russian Academy of Arts Oleg Supereko working and living in Italy. The artist presents his preparatory cartoons for the fresco painting   of the Cathedral in Noto (Sicily, Italy).

 

Oleg Supereko was born in Moscow on January 11, 1974.  After graduation fr om I. Glazunov Russian Academy of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture he visited Italy as a grant holder in 1999, wh ere he entered the Academy of Fine Arts in Venice, in 2004 Oleg Supereko received a Diploma with Honors.

 

In 2007 the Secretary of the Pontifical Commission for Cultural Heritage of the Church and Member of the Pontifical Commission for Sacred Archaeology the Bishop Carlo Chenis initiated the creation of fresco painting for the reconstructed dome of the Noto Cathedral destroyed on March 13, 1996 after the earthquake in St. Lucia in 1990. The mission of the new dome decoration has been assigned to the Russian artist Oleg Supereko as a recognized master of monumental painting.  

 

The exhibition is aimed at showing Oleg Supereko’s drawings, sketches and cartoons for the Noto Cathedral in full size to emphasize the scale of the artist’s creative concept and style which is associated with monumental traditions of the Renaissance (Correggio and Michelangelo) and Baroque (Pietro da Cortona and Domenichino).
