His Line: Exhibition of Graphic Works by Sergey Tsygal

The exhibition presents 120 graphic works by Sergey V. Tsygal produced in the technique of etching, serigraphy, aerography and mixed technique, as well as about 40 paintings and art objects.

The name of the exhibition has been taken fr om the article of the film director Vadim Abdrashitov about the creative work of Sergey Tsygal: “You want to look at his etchings again and again: there is movement in them, there is life, because Tsygal has his own line. In the sense, that no lines are random as in nature”.

Sergey Tsygal positions himself as an animalist, many of his works depict the world of wild nature. He often works in theme series such as “Animals against the Black Background”, “Insects”, “Fish”, “Cats”, “Vine”, “Lotus”. His travelling impressions were collected in vast series “Torzhok”, “Koktebel Stones”, “Central Asia”, “Venice”, “Sailing Ships”, “China” and many others. The artist’s works are full of his admiration of nature, good humor and love.

Sergey V. Tsygal was born on December 6, 1949 in Moscow. He belongs to the celebrated creative Tsygal- Shaginyan dynasty: his farther – the People’s Artist of Russia, Academician of the Russian Academy of Arts Victor Tsygal, his mother –
the artist Mirel Shaginyan. Since his school years Sergey Tsygal became interested in traveling and at the age of 16 went on an expedition to South Sakhalin. Another passion of the artist since his childhood was biology. In 1973 Sergey Tsygal  graduated from M. Lomonosov Moscow State University, wh ere he majored in biogeography at the Geography Department. In 1986 he graduated from S. Stroganov Moscow Academy of Arts and Industry. The high professional level, perfect performing skills allowed him to establish himself as an independent creative personality and brilliant master of graphic art.

Sergey Tsygal has been a participant of more than 200 art exhibitions. His works are in the collections of A. Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts, the State Russian Museum, State Darvin Museum, Lenin Russian State Library, as well as in private collections in Russia, the United States, Sweden, Great Britain, France, Israel, Denmark, etc.
