The People’s Artist of Russia, Academician of the Russian Academy of Arts Vasili Nesterenko is an author of the significant for Sevastopol, Crimea and all Russia canvas entitled “Defend Sevastopol”. The picture will be exhibited at M. Kroshitsky Sevastopol Art Museum for the second time. The first show took place in Sevastopol in 2005 - the year of the 150th anniversary of the city’s defense during the Crimean War. This time, the solo show presents Vasili Nesterenko’s work “We are the Russians. God is with Us”.

This canvas is dedicated to soldiers and officers who defended the Osovets fortress in WWI. Similar to the defenders of Sevastopol, the garrison of the Osovets fortress for many years has withstood the assault and bombardment of the German troops that were far superior the forces of the small fortress. Even the cyclopean siege weapons did not help the Germans, they used toxic gases. The deed of the Russian soldiers-defenders of the Osovets has entered the world history as “an attack of the dead men”. “The history makes a new round and isn’t it the time to appeal to the lessons of the past again?” – asks Vasili Nesterenko through his picture.

The artist’s triptych “The Echo of the Last War” is dedicated to the Great Patriotic War which 70th anniversary we are celebrating this year. It consists of the well-known canvas “The Unsubdued” and his two recent pictures.

The solo show includes Vasili Nesterenko’s portraits and landscapes depicting the far  borders of our homeland – views of Kamchatka, Sakhalin and Kuril Islands.
