The Russian Academy of Arts presents a solo show of the celebrated St. Petersburg artist Valery Mishin best known for his graphic cycles, paintings and illustrations to numerous classical works of Russian and world literature  - fr om The Song of Songs to poems by Tsvetaeva, Mayakovsky, prose of Pushkin, Karamsin, Zamyatin, Granin and others.

Valery Mishin was born in 1939 in Simferopol, in 1962 – graduated from the Sverdlovsk Art College wh ere he studied under the futurist artist Pavel Khozhatelev. In 1968 he graduated from V. Mukhina Leningrad Higher College of Art and Industry, since 1966 – a participant of more than 300 exhibitions in Russia and other countries, including over 30 solo shows.

Valery Mishin is a multisided and complicated artist who sees the world through his peculiar vision. The exhibition features the artist’s works of various years including paintings, graphic sheets, portraits, landscapes. Among his book illustrations of major interest are works for the publishing houses “Rare Book from St. Petersburg” and “Vita-Nova”. The solo show is accompanied by a monograph about the artist in the series “Avant-Garde on the Neva River”.

Valery Mishin is a Member of the Artists’ Union of Russia, Member of the UNESCO International Federation of Artists, Member of the International Federation of Russian Writers. The artist’s works are in collections of A. Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts, Moscow Museum of Modern Art, the State Hermitage, State Russian Museum, Museum of the History of St. Petersburg; A. Pushkin All-Russian Museum; Museum of St. Petersburg City Sculpture; Kaliningrad State Art Gallery; Museum and Art Gallery, Bristol; Zimmerly Art Museum, New Brunswick, New Jersey;  Gutenberg Museum, Mainz; Museum of the House of Humor and Satire, Gabrovo; Cremona Civic Museum, etc, as well as in private collections.
