The Russian Academy Of Arts

The opening ceremony for the “One Hundred Works From Paris” exhibition of Zurab Tsereteli, President of the Russian Academy of Arts, People’s Artist of the USSR and the Russian Federation,  UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador will take place in the Engineering Block of the State Tretyakov Gallery on May 26, 2009.

 

Organized by the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation, the State Tretyakov Gallery and the Russian Academy of Arts, the solo show includes paintings, graphic art, sculpture, bronze reliefs and enamels recently created by the master in his Paris studio or according to his Paris sketches. Many of them have never been displayed in public before.   

 

Zurab Tsereteli is a prominent artist and master of monumental art, an author of a number of major monuments and sculptural compositions installed throughout the world. Equally popular are his works produced in other types of fine arts. In the artist’s creative work one can find all  that troubles him from everyday topics to his thoughts about the eternal values of our existence. Being a master of the entire arsenal of fine arts, Zurab Tsereteli freely relocates his characters from the space of painting to sculpture and enamel, from relief into drawings and canvases thus creating  by his boundless fantasy a truly original and unique world.

 

The artist’s numerous paintings – landscapes, portraits, still lives, decorative compositions full of the vigorous element of color and the expression of a plastic form are life-asserting and produce an atmosphere of feast. Tsereteli’s color and black and white drawings, multidimensional enamels are distinguished by their special sounding and decorative features. Emotionally rich are his easel sculptural works and bronze reliefs characterized by the artist’s deep penetration into the hearts of people he depicts.

 

Paris takes a special place in the creative biography of the master. The amazing atmosphere of this city, his meetings with world renowned figures of culture and arts including Pablo Picasso, Marc Chagall  and others have made a big impact on Zurab Tsereteli and inspired the creation of many of his remarkable works devoted to the French history and  culture. These are monuments to Honore de Balzac (Agda, France), to John Paul II in Ploermel (France) and to General Charles de Gaulle (Moscow, Russia), as well as a rich gallery of images executed in various materials and media, types and genres of fine arts.

 

This exhibition on the eve of the Year of France in Russia in 2010 is in its way the artist’s  tribute of deep respect to the history of France and its great creators.
