PANEL DISCUSSION DEDICATED TO THE CREATIVE WORK OF SERGEY M. ROMANOVICH

The Department of Art History and Art Criticism of the Russian Academy of Arts invites you to take part in the panel discussion dedicated to the creative work of the Russian artist Sergey M. Romanovich (1894-1968), that will take place in the White Hall of the Russian Academy of Arts on March 14, 2018 at 15.00.

Sergey Romanovich was born in Moscow in 1894. In 1912-1914 in partnership with Mikhail Larionov he was a member of the art group “Rayonists and Futurists”  which was an important step in the development of abstract art (Target Exhibition in 1913). In 1935-1948 Sergey Romanovich worked for the Workshop of Monumental Painting of the USSR Academy of Architecture.

His easel paintings were mostly devoted to antique and religious themes which he developed throughout his life. After the War of 1941-1945 he exhibited his  canvases very seldom preferring to work in the genre of monumental painting. In 1995 there was a retrospective exhibition of the artist’s works in the State Russian Museum (St. Petersburg) and later in the Tretyakov Gallery (Moscow).
