The Russian Academy Of Arts

The Russian Academy of Arts invites you to attend a presentation of the book “Sergey and Elizabeth” by the noted historian Dmitry Grishin that will take place in the White Hall of the Russia Academy of Arts (21 Prechistenka street, Moscow) on November 23, 2015 at 16.00. The book is dedicated to the life of the Grand Duke Sergey Alexandrovich – a prominent statesman of Russia and his spouse Saint Grand Duchess Elizabeth (Elizaveta Fyodorovna).

On the basis of a vast documentary material, the book truthfully, clearly and comprehensively, presents the dramatic fate of the Grand Duke Sergey (son of the Emperor Alexander II of Russia), a man of deep faith, adamant spirit and righteous life entirely dedicated to the service to his Fatherland. During twenty years of their marriage a special place in his life and heart has been occupied by a bright image of the Grand Duchess Elizabeth. Their mutual love and spiritual unity created an amazing and wonderful union revealed to the reader in the book.

The book also focuses on the charity and philanthropy of the Grand-Ducal couple, their concerns about the cultural enlightenment of the people, their patronage of artists. It is richly illustrated with photographs and reproductions, many of which are published for the first time.
