Zurab Tsereteli Took Part in the Opening of the Exhibition in Honor of the 300th Anniversary of Mickhail Lomonosov

On November 17, 2011 the President of the Russian Academy of Arts Zurab Tsereteli took part in the opening of the exhibition “Mickhail Lomonosov and His Time” in the exhibition hall of the Federal Archives, 17 Bolshaya Pirogovskaya street, Moscow. The exposition includes several works by Zurab Tsereteli, among them - the artist’s portrait of Mickhail Lomonosov.

One more work by Tsereteli is a model of his monument to the Count Ivan Shuvalov, founder of the Moscow University (now named after Mickhail Lomonosov) who supported Lomonosov’s initiatives and ideas. The monument to Ivan Shuvalov stands in front of the building of the Fundamental Library of the Moscow State University.

On display are archive documents and unique albums, maps, engravings, paintings from museum and archive holdings. Of major interest is the mosaic executed in Mikhail Lomonosov’s workshop and medals on historical themes, clocks, microscopes, telescopes, specimens of rock ores.

The exhibition also presents the scientist’s recreated study with the furniture of the 18th century, documents about Lomonosov’s jubilees always celebrated in Russia as big events.
