Presentation of the “Park of the New World” Project Within the Framework of the Visit of Zurab Tsereteli to Puerto Rico

Within the framework of the visit of the President of the Russian Academy of Arts Zurab Tsereteli to Puerto Rico there was a presentation of the joint project “Park of the New World”. The landscape complex is a part of a major art project “How Europe Discovered America” commemorating the 500th anniversary of the historical sail of Christopher Columbus to the shores of America.

The first part of the above art project – “Birth of the New Man” monument was dedicated in 1995 in Seville, Spain, from where the great navigator had started his voyage. Its small replica stands at the UNESCO Headquarters in Paris along with other works by world renowned sculptors.

The centerpiece of the big “Park of the New World” complex, including a park, a museum and a hotel, is a 126m tall sculptural composition entitled Birth of the New World depicting the great navigator Christopher Columbus and fragments of the map of his sail. The Monument is planned to be unveiled in Puerto Rico in 2012 that will be the Year of the United States in Russia and the Year of Russia in the United States.
