The Russian Academy of Arts presents more than 70 recent works by  Vladimir Buinachev, the Honored Artist of Russia, Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Arts, sculptor, painter, writer, poet, researcher of monuments of Russian literature. The exhibition is timed to the artist’s 80th anniversary.

Over 60 years were devoted by Vladimir Buinachev to the art of sculpture. In 1967 he graduated fr om S. Stroganov Moscow Academy of Arts and Industry. According to the master, “sculpture is a journey into the world of space and form”.  Going on this journey he prefers not to follow the usual procedure – from sketches to preparatory drawings. For him of paramount importance is the material that dictates the form and shape of the future artwork. Buinachev most likes to work with hard rock stones such as granite and diorite. He appreciates their sonority, density and “special deep glow inspiring the idea of the eternal and imperishable”. The exhibition also includes his wooden color sculptures – the latest passion of the artist who is very much interested in the symbiosis of painting and sculpture wh ere color and shape are interacting as equal elements.

Along with sculptural compositions on display are his books and collections of  poems. The literature plays one of the key roles in the master’s creative life. Since his childhood he has been writing poems and prose and studying monuments of Russian literature. For many years he has been solving the mystery of the Russian epic “Tale of Igor’s Campaign”. Having forwarded the hypothesis about the encoding in this chronical monument Buinachev offered his own version of its decryption and dating. His interpretation of the ancient text was included in the book entitled “The New Reading of the “Tale of Igor’s Campaign: the Author is Identified” and published in 1998. The sculptor has always been interested in Russian history including the history of Russian Orthodox church. At the same time, many of Buinachev’s works reflect his emotional reaction to the events of today’s Russia.

Works of Vladimir Buinachev are in the collections of the State Tretyakov Gallery, Moscow Museum of Modern Art, A. Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts, “Museon” park in Moscow, the State Russian Museum, M. Nesterov Art Museum in Ufa etc, as well as in private collections in Bulgaria, Hungary, Germany, the United States, Sweden, Japan, Morocco.
