The exhibition of works by the People’s Artist of Russia, Academician of the Russian Academy of Arts Nickolai Ivanov and the Honored Artist of Russia, Academician of the Russian Academy of Arts Victor Buskin at the Moscow State Institute of International Relations (MGIMO) is timed to the 205th anniversary of the Battle of Borodino and the 260th anniversary of the Russian Academy of Arts and presents fifty canvases and graphic works as well as 25 sculptural compositions.

Nickolai Ivanov was born in 1938. In 1963 he graduated from S. Stroganov Moscow Academy of Arts and Industry, at present is a Professor and teacher of academic sculpture of this educational entity. Nickolai Ivanov is an Honored Art Worker of the Republic of Dagestan, an Academician of the International Academy of Culture and Arts, since 1968 – a Member of the Artists’ Union of Russia. He works in painting, sculpture and graphic art. He has authored monuments installed in many cities of Russia: Moscow, Barabinsk, Vyshny Volochek, Kizlyar, Karshi, Belgorod, Kaluga, Stavropol, etc. His works are in state museum and private collections in Russia and other countries.

On display in MGIMO are the artist’s sculptural compositions and portraits of noted statesmen, writers, figures of culture, art and science: Evgeny Primakov, Vladimir Vernadsky, Mickhail Sholokhov, Mickhail Bulgakov, Sergei Rakhmaninov, hero of the War of 1812 Denis Davydov and others.

Victor Buskin (b. in 1945) is an Honored Physician of the RF, Doctor of Medicine, Professor, Academician and Vice-President of the Academy of Medical and Technical Sciences, Member of the Creative Union of Artists and UNESCO International Federation of Artists. Victor Buskin works in classical realistic manner in the genres of portrait, landscape, still life and themed paintings.

The exposition includes Victor Buskin’s portraits of his colleagues and friends, prominent people of Russia: diplomats A.A. Bessmertnykh, A.G. Karlov, A.M. Gorchakov; scientists V.I. Vernadsky, A.L. Chizhevsky, K.E. Tsiolkovsky and S.P. Korolev; the Patriarch of All Russia and Moscow Pimen, Metropolitan Valentin; Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences D.V. Rundquist, Professor and cardiologist V.N. Orlov. The centerpiece of the exhibition is Buskin’s triptych dedicated to the Patriotic War of 1812: “Borodino. Kutuzov’s Plan for the Battle” (2011); “The Capture of the French” (2011); “Disgraceful End” (2012).
