21 Prechistenka street, Moscow

The Closed Museum exhibition at the Russian Academy of Arts in 21 Prechistenka street (the former Ivan Morozov mansion) recreates the atmosphere of the Museum of New Western Painting, that was housed in the mansion in the 1920-1940-s and included works from two legendary collections of Sergey Schukin and Ivan Morozov.

The curator Andrey Erofeev and painter Anna Reshetnikova offer an expositional citation composed of monochrome paintings with original dimensions and similar to the original frames, which were in the collection hanging of the Museum closed in 1948. This original hanging was preserved in photographs and documents published in many monographs, albums and researches about Morozov, Schukin and Impressionists.

“The exhibition is a kind of a homage to the great Russian collectors Sergey Schukin and Ivan Morozov without whom Russia  would not have in its museum collections the best works by Picasso, Matisse and the brilliant galaxy of French Impressionists of the late 19th – early 20th century” – says the art producer and collector Igor Tsukanov.

Alla Reshetnikova,  a graduate of V. Surikov Moscow State Academy Art Institute has worked with several galleries in Europe and the U.S.A. Her abstract paintings are executed in a complicated and multilayer technique. “Painting and color, in particular, are my religion, mysticism and freedom. The coloring and the color magic of a painting field are my principle heroes. This exhibition is for me a big honor and at the same time a challenge – the great impressionists have left me with the feeling of an open world of color and absolute happiness” – confesses the artist.

Andrey Erofeev is an independent curator and art critic, founder of the Latest Trends Department of the State Tretyakov Gallery.

The exhibition has been organized by the Tsukanov Family Foundation under the support of the State Tretyakov Gallery and A. Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts.

The Tsukanov Family Foundation is a founded in London charitable entity implementing a wide program of support to art, music and education in Russia and Great Britain. It owns one of the vastest private collections of Russian post-war art in the world.
